Our Middletown Veterinarians

middletown veterinarian Joseph Gravenor, DVM

Dr. Gravenor grew up here in Middletown, DE and has always dreamed of owning a practice, serving the community he has called home. He graduated right down the street, from Middletown High School, where he played as a slot back receiver for the Cavaliers.

He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Delaware and then moved on to Virginia Tech, where he received his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine. Returning to Middletown as a veterinarian has been incredibly meaningful and he is grateful for the opportunity to care for pets while building lasting relationships with clients and their families, continuing the trusted legacy of Main Street Veterinary Clinic.

Dr. Gravenor lives in Middletown with his wife, their young daughter, three dogs, and two cats. Outside of Veterinary Medicine, his interests include sports, traveling, and trying new foods.

middletown veterinarian John Heller, VMD

Dr. Heller was encouraged from his youngest days to pursue his interest in science and medicine, as well as an appreciation for animals as important members of the family. "All our family pictures have dogs and cats in the background," Dr. Heller says. "In my mind, a house is empty without dogs to greet you and cats to knock things over. This background made it easy for me to choose a career as a veterinarian."

Dr. Heller attended Middlebury College as an undergraduate, earning his degree in biochemistry. He received his doctorate in veterinary medicine from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine, concluding his studies in 1999. He worked as a mixed animal veterinarian In Talbot County for 4 years, then as a small animal only veterinarian in Harford County for 12 years.  He struck out on his own and opened Main Street Veterinary Clinic in July of 2015.

His professional interests include surgery, dentistry, and internal medicine. Dr. Heller is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and the Delaware Veterinary Medical Association.

"The most satisfying part of being a veterinarian is meeting people who look to their pets in the same way I do - as family members with whom we share our lives," Dr. Heller says.

At home Dr. Heller cares for 4 rescued dogs. In his free time he enjoys cycling, running, woodworking, and brewing beer. He and his wife Lindsey Rowland, who is also a veterinarian, have two small children together.
